Hey there, adventurous families! We are looking for a few great families to join our community and school. Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of city life?  Do you dream of living in a remote location where you can connect with nature and your neighbors and become part of a tightknit community?  If so, then Tenakee Springs, Alaska might just be the place for you! Our community would be enhanced by families and individuals who are ready to embrace a remote lifestyle and the incredible experience that comes with it.

Tenakee Springs is a tiny town in southeast Alaska surrounded by the Tongass National Forest. Our community demographics have changed over time with younger people moving away, people retiring and snow birding, and elders passing on. We are hoping to move forward to a vibrant year-round community of all ages!

Some of the amenities of Tenakee Springs include: daily floatplanes (limited by winter weather), every other week ferry service, library, homeschool center, community greenhouse, harbor, fuel dock, grocery store, part-time SEARHC medical clinic, historical museum, community center, and post office. And let’s not forget about the fishing and hunting opportunities, lack of cars, and miles of wilderness.

But let’s be real, living in Tenakee Springs isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. We don’t have law enforcement or trash service, finding a place to live and work takes some creativity, healthcare is not immediate, and getting supplies can be a bit of a challenge. And because we’re in the wilds of Alaska there are bears and other animals to coexist with. But if you’re self-reliant, independent, and up for a little adventure, you’ll fit right in.

Our community is made up of a diverse group of Alaskans, from hunters, fisherman, gardeners, loggers, educators, construction workers and contractors, healthcare professionals, trappers, to cooks and bakers, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, pet lovers, parents, kids, and so many more!

Some of the qualities of people who would love to live here are people who are community oriented, attracted to a subsistence lifestyle, self-reliant, willing to homeschool, independent and adventurous, outdoorsy, and collaborative.

If you work on the water, have a seasonal job, or work remotely online or otherwise, Tenakee Springs may be the perfect place for you. And if you’re interested in getting involved in the community, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer with municipal boards and council positions.

So, what are you waiting for?

If you’re ready to live a remote Alaska lifestyle in a tight-knit community come check out Tenakee Springs.
